This page is for the American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis). The male is a bright yellow with black, and very distinctive in appearance. It was one of the first birds that I was able to identify that was not part of the birds I would encounter on a typical day. My first photographic evidence occurred on February 16, 2015 on a snowy day near our backyard bird feeder. The best photograph I have taken of the American Goldfinch to date (above) was from January 8, 20221 at our backyard feeder, Vista Heights, Fort Worth, TX.

The following photographs are the best representative images from different dates and locations than my species representative example.
