This page is for the Common Loon (Gavia immer). The first shot of one was at quite a distance. I thought it was some sort of gull at first, but after a lot of research and comparing photos, I am pretty confident it is either a juvenile or a non-breading adult Common Loon. Fortunately, I was able to take a much closer shot a little over a year later.
