Mollusks are invertebrates that include snails, octopi and squids, and clams, with an estimated 76,000 living species. The Phylum Mollusca evolved over 500 million years ago, based on current evidence. Characteristics of Mollusks generally include a large percentage of their composition is muscle, a large mantle, a nervous system, and frequently a rasping tongue called a radula and/or some sort of shell.
