Amphibia (Amphibians)

Amphibians are vertebrates that include frogs and toads, with an estimated 8,000 living species. The Class Amphibia evolved around 370 million years ago based on current evidence. Characteristics of Amphibia generally include a smooth, moist skin (partial respiration is through the skin), have four legs in the adult stage, and are tied to water for reproduction with an aquatic larval state (tadpoles).
