Hemiptera (True Bugs)

Hemiptera are invertebrates that include the true bugs such as cicadas, aphids, leafhoppers and bed bugs, with an estimated 80,000 living species. The Order Hemiptera evolved about 310 million years ago, based on current evidence. Characteristics of hemipterans generally include piercing-sucking mouthparts, compound eyes, fairly long segmented antennae, and two pairs of wings (when wings are present).
