This page is for the Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus). This species is present almost every time I go into the field. I frequently take pictures of both the Black and Turkey Vultures as they are often maligned as being ugly. While not the most attractive bird, they are graceful in their own right and serve a vital purpose in nature. As a result, I like to give them respect by frequently taking pictures of them. The March 25, 2021 photo is my first photographic evidence of this species. The best photograph I have taken of the Black Vulture to date (above) was from January 29, 2022 at Cleburne State Park, Cleburne, TX. However, one of my favorite photographs of Black Vultures was taken on September 5, 2021 at Mineral Wells State Park, Mineral Wells, TX. It is one of my favorite pictures as it seems like the vultures are just waiting by the sign for someone to say “Hold my beer and watch this.”

The following photographs are the best representative images from different dates and locations than my species representative example.
