This page is for the Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus). I originally thought this was just a domesticated chicken until I read that they are actually the “original chicken” and come from SE Asia. They have subsequently been introduced in many regions around the world and the domestic chickens are its descendants. Their gray legs make them easily distinguished from their feral relatives which have yellow legs. These birds are considered “Exotic: escapee” on eBird and are not counted toward the eBird life list, but I count them on my page. We joked about them being SO prolific on Oahu, Hawaii, that they should be the unofficial state bird.
