This page is for the Garganey (Spatula querquedula). I saw this female duck with approximately eight of her offspring swimming in the moat of Matsumoto Castle. I was visiting Japan to present at a conference and spent some time with my friend from Matsumoto University in Matsumoto, Japan. I toured the local castle one day while he was teaching class and saw these ducks swimming nearby.
