This page is for the Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus). I was very excited to see these birds (as I took nearly 300 pictures of them). They are an elegant and beautiful bird and were fairly plentiful at the lake. One of my favorite shots is of one appearing to strut on the beach with Stilt Sandpiper in the shallow water with its legs crossed and a bemused expression on its face.
