This page is for the Chestnut Munia (Lonchura atricapilla). I saw these small birds at a fair distance hopping around the ground of a side trail at the park. Most of the shots were very blurry or otherwise poor. My initial shot posted of this bird is not great, but it provided enough detail to make a decent educated guess of the species. At first I thought it was a Scaly-breasted Munia, which is a more common bird. However, the coloration just did not look right. After quite a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that it is an immature Chestnut Munia. The size, shape, bill, and coloration patterns all point that direction.
