Landscapes

I don’t shoot a lot of landscapes. More accurately is I shoot a fair number of landscapes, but few result in images that I think are good enough to share. One of my favorites is the Fall Color Trees above, from the variety of colors and the composition, I just really like this photograph (which looks good after post-processing, but looked really bad in its RAW state – Yay editing software that saved this image).

My wife and I took a nice afternoon hike on the Cross Timbers Trail. It was our first time hiking this trail as we are still exploring the Forth Worth Nature Preserve. As we emerge from the woods into an open area, I immediately see the clouds that seem to take the shape of an eagle, so I took a photo.

The dawn this morning was exceptionally beautiful. I have wanted to take a photograph of the dawn, but I usually see this view as I am leaving for work (if the time of year is right). We were about to head out taking photographs and I snapped this one before we left.

Lake Carl Etling is the lake at Black Mesa State Park. It was one of the most peaceful places I have ever camped. I am looking forward to going back to do more camping when I am able.

This photo and the next four are shots I took while hiking to the highest point in Oklahoma at Black Mesa Nature Preserve, so named due to the black volcanic rocks that formed the mesa. These shots are from the lower part of the hike.

These two shots are from on top of Black Mesa. You can see the black volcanic rocks just beyond the grasses in this picture.

This was the view from my tent as the sun was going down in the evening. The picture does not do the beauty of the area much justice.

Here are some shots of the Cupadera Mountains that were just west of the Bosque del Apache NWR. There are several photographs of birds that had the mountains as the background. It was such a beautiful area.

Here are four shots from Eastern New Mexico going from very flat to a bit more variation in elevation.

As I was driving I saw some sod houses. This one I saw far enough away that I could get the camera ready to shoot as I drove by. It is an interesting glimpse into the past.

Here are some shots I tried to take while driving down the highway (safely of course). I think most of them are from the Carrizozo, NM area, but some may be from other areas of the highway.

Here is a five-shot sequence of our last sunrise in Hawaii, followed by a shot of our last sunset in Hawaii.

We had a storm pass through and part of it included these beautiful mamatus clouds as the sun was setting.

The following six photographs are from out day trip to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. The first two each have a Yellow-legged Gull that I was trying to get photographed. The bird was just too far for the image to be useful for my bird shots, but the area was beautiful and I thought I would add them to the landscapes page.

The following five photographs are from Parque Nacional del Teide, including one of Mount Teide which is the highest point in Spain (although in the Canary Islands).
