This page is for the Barred Owl (Strix varia). I have loved birds of prey as long as I can remember, and the Barred Owl is my all-time favorite bird. I was finally able to photograph one that I had been hearing at our house for over a year on April 7, 2013. Even though it is a poor quality image (cheaper camera with minimal zoom capabilities, cloudy afternoon, and a decent distance away), I was very excited to finally get a photo of one. We were living in Kentucky at the time and the owl was across the way in a tree along the creek. The best photograph I have taken of the Barred Owl to date (above) was from February 20, 2022 in the trees near the Forked Tail Creek trail at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX.

The following photograph is the best representative image from a different date and location than my species representative example.
