This page is for the Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis). This is a fairly common species of hawk and it is one of the larger hawks, so it is fairly easy to see. The December 28, 2007 photo is my first photographic evidence of this bird, taken while on a trip to Puerto Rico. The best photograph I have taken of the Red-tailed Hawk to date (above) was taken January 22, 2022 at the Village Creek Drying Beds, Arlington, TX. My father and I would always look for hawks on our 20 mile drive home from school when I was a teen and would frequently see Red-tailed Hawks. Good times!
