This page is for the Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura). My first photographic evidence of a Mourning Dove occurred on December 31, 2021 at Cement Creek Reservoir, Fort Worth, TX. I took this photograph as we were walking out of the area and I saw all the dove on the fence. The fence surrounds Meachum Airport which is right next to this small reservoir. The best photograph I have taken of the Mourning Dove to date (above) was from January 8, 2022 at one of our backyard feeders, Vista Heights, Fort Worth, TX. The Mourning Dove is another very familiar bird from my youth. On long drives across Oklahoma and Kansas to visit grandparents, my father, brother, and I would try to guess how many dove we would see before we reached some distant point ahead of us. It was a great road game as dove are distinctive enough when they fly to allow even a young child to be able to identify them. Good times!
The following photographs are the best representative images from different dates and locations than my species representative example.
