Sharp-shinned Hawk

Cooper's Hawk on the ground behind a few layers of tree branches. Others said he had his breakfast of a Cotton Rat, but it is not visible in the photograph.

This page is for the Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus). This picture is from my first Great Backyard Bird Count where we participated at the Acton Nature Center. This photo is also my first photographic evidence of the Sharp-shinned Hawk and occurred on February 19, 2022. This hawk was right next to the bird blind and feeders, eating a cotton rat (according to others that had a better vantage point).

The photograph below is currently the only other representative example of a Sharp-shinned Hawk that I have taken.
