This page is for the Northern Rough-winged Swallow (Stelgidopteryx serripennis). My first photographic evidence of a Northern Rough-winged Swallow occurred on April 12, 2023 while I had some free time in Chicago after flying there for a conference so I went to a couple of bird sanctuaries on a beautiful spring day. Described as the “plainest swallow in North America” by Cornell Lab’s Merlin App, I still find it a very cute bird. Happily, it was perched on a tree branch as they are very difficult to get a good picture when they are flying around.
