Dickcissel

This page is for the Dickcissel (Spiza americana). While on a bird walk at the refuge, we were looking at Orchard Orioles flitting about at a pretty great distance, and landing in this tree. It was only after I looked at the photos on the computer did the left bird in the above photo just not look right for the Oriole. After a bit of research, I determined it was a Dickcissel. My father would point them out when I was a kid, but at the time I never really was able to tell them apart from other similar species of birds.
