This page is for the Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris). The Ruby-throated Hummingbird was very common where I grew up in NE Oklahoma and where I lived in western Kentucky many years later. It was the only species that ever came to our feeders, and one male in Kentucky we called a hummingbully as it aggressively defended the feeders from other males. I heard this female up in the trees, and it took me a while to trace the sound to the bird, but I finally got a decent shot (although still a little darker than I would like).
