This page is for the Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps). This species is common at the Nature Preserve and I see them on almost every visit. I have always loved grebes since my undergraduate college experience. As a biology major, I spent a lot of time in the science building and looked at their display specimens frequently. The grebe was always my favorite of what was on display. The October 23, 2021 photo is my first photographic evidence of this duck and had been my representative example until it was replace with the current best photograph I have taken of the Pied-billed Grebe to date (above) on December 30, 2021 at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX. We were driving back to the Greer Island trailhead and saw this guy just off the shore as the road got close to the water. I was able to take the shot from my truck.
The following photographs are the best representative images from different dates and locations than my species representative example.
