This page is for the Redhead (Aythya americana). I was shooting some American Wigeon and noticed this duck swimming among them. At first I thought it was a Ring-necked Duck as they are fairly similar, but something just did not look right. Once I zoomed in, I got more excited as I realized it was a Redhead. Being the first example of this species I have heard about at this park, I figured he was just flying by and decided to hang out with the American Wigeon. When I walked past this pond again about 15 minutes later, the American Wigeon were there but the Redhead had apparently moved on. So, on a dreary, cloudy day with poor light and few birds moving around, I got lucky and managed to get a new species. It made my day!
