This page is for the Eastern Meadowlark (Sialia sialis). I have seen this bird often as a youth, but very infrequently as an adult, and but not in many years. At first glance we thought it was a different bird at the distance we were viewing it. Only when we got the photographs home and on the computer could we tell what species it was (and it was difficult to tell the difference from the Western Meadowlark). My most memorable interaction with a meadowlark was driving on the highway to my night class for my associates degree and I saw a meadowlark take off from the far side of the highway and head my way. It was a nice day so I had my window open, and it was headed right for me. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for the bird, it hit the backseat window, which was up. I felt bad for the bird, but happy I didn’t get a beak to the eye and crash my car. My first photographic evidence occurred on December 26, 2021 at the North Holiday Park, Benbrook, TX.
The following photographs are the best representative images from different dates and locations than my species representative example.
