Colubridae (Snakes)

The Family Colubridae includes anole, with an estimated 2000 living species. The Family Colubridae evolved around 40 million years ago based on current evidence. Characteristics of Colubridae generally include a long, slender body without limbs. The majority are non-venomous but a few do produce venom that is injected with grooved fangs rather than the hollow fangs of Viperidae. Only a small subset have venom that is medically significant.
