This page is for the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius). My first photographic evidence occurred on February 12, 2022 at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX. I was in a small grove of trees with other similar species (Red-bellied Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, and Downy Woodpecker) and I thought this was another Downy Woodpecker that I could see through a narrow opening in the branches of a nearby tree. I was surprised when I was looking through the photos back home and realized it was a new species for me.

The above photograph is currently the only representative example of a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that I have taken.
