This page is for the Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon). This species is fairly common at the Nature Preserve and I see them on most visits, but they are quite wary and can be difficult to get a decent photograph. The March 26, 2021 photo is my first photographic evidence of this bird. I kept seeing something dive into the water and once I looked closer at it and saw what it was I started taking some photographs. The best photograph I have taken of the Belted Kingfisher to date (above) was from November 13, 2021 at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX. I really like this photograph due to the character shown by the bird with his tail feathers kicked up.
