The Family Colubridae includes anole, with an estimated 2000 living species. The Family Colubridae evolved around 40 million years ago based on current evidence. Characteristics of Colubridae generally include a long, slender body without limbs. The majority are non-venomous but a few do produce venom that is injected with grooved fangs rather than the hollow fangs of Viperidae. Only a small subset have venom that is medically significant.
