This page is for the Great Egret (Ardea herodias). This species is very common and very visible at most waterways I visit. They are more wary than the Great Blue Heron, but seem to be a bit more active. The February 19, 2015 photo is my first photographic evidence of this bird and was taken when my wife and I were kayaking the local lake. The best photograph I have taken of the Great Egret to date (above) was from November 13, 2021 at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX.
