This page is for the Western Cattle-Egret (Bubulcus ibis). When I first added this bird it was just the Cattle Egret. I guess those in charge of naming felt the need to add “Western” to its common name.

I had heard of the UTSWMC rookery for a few weeks when we decided to head over after birding in another area. There were so many birds it was unbelievable. I used to see these birds when I lived in Oklahoma as there was a rookery a few blocks from my house. At the time I considered them a pest as they really caused a smelly mess. However, I now have a new appreciation for them and was very happy to get one photographed. My first photographic evidence occurred on April 30, 2022.
