This page is for the Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum). My first photographic evidence of the Brown Thrasher was on January 15, 2022 at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX. I was walking along a narrow peninsula of trail and this guy landed about five or six feed from me and just stayed by me, occasionally eating a berry. He seemed to like posing for me, so I happily took many pictures. He had a malformed upper beak, which at first I thought was broken, but upon inspection of the picture, it looks like a congenital condition. This guy is a survivor given the probable increased difficulty obtaining food. He is such a pretty bird, that I will be hard pressed to find a picture I like better for the representative photograph. My second time seeing a Brown Thrasher I understood how they got their name. This guy was along a fence line and was thrashing through the leaves on the ground. The best photograph I have taken of the Brown Thrasher to date (above) is the January 15, 2022 photograph at the Fort Worth Nature Preserve, Fort Worth, TX.
The following photograph is the best representative image from a different date and location than my species representative example.
